Align to grid, icons

Hey! My names Matt, I'm a total n00b to linux, and I just had a quick question about KDE. On my desktop, when I right-click and select "Align to Grid", even when it's on, nothing changes. I can still drag my icons all over my desktop and they will change to the exact position I dragged them to. Help please!! ?(
