I'm not absolutely sure, but I vaguely remember having encountered a similar problem, which disappeared when I upgraded KDE to 3.5.3. You could probably try upgrade and see if that would solve it.
Sorry I didn't seem to see your post over at KubuntuForums.Net.
Thanks. Now I am a confused noob. I just did a full upgrade using adept this morning. Still the same error "Cannot find parent item file:///home in the tree. Internal error." Adept says KDE is not installed in my Kubuntu dapper, however I am using the KDE desktop. If I install it will it update my 3.5.2 to version 3.5.3?
Thanks for the link. Update was successful but still get the same error in Konqueror when opening any folder by clicking on a shortcut. If I open Konqueror first with the K-menu I can browse through my files/ folders within and do not get the error. It seems like any icon that calls on Konqueror to open it gives me the error message: "Cannot find parent item file:///home in the tree. Internal error."
I had the same problem - here is a fix (if you haven't found it already).
Open the konqueror file browser and make sure the panel on the left side is extended (you can do this by pressing F9). Click the box for your home directory or whatever you prefer and save the profile under Settings -> Save view profile 'file management'. Then a save dialog will come up - hit save. The error message should be gone next time you start konqueror.
no problem, happy to help.
- next time you're in A'dam.
This error seems to occur after use of removable media. If I open my pen drive or USB hard disk, browse some files, then close the window (without returning to my home dir) I get this error. Strange - maybe it's a bug.
