I found the only way I can connect to MSN is to remove my MSN account from configure - accounts and create a new one each time I start Kopete, I then get a connection.
A bit of a pain to have to do it, but it works for me

Try going into the kopete directory after the configure command and before
the make command.
> cd [source dir]
> configure [options]
> cd kopete
> make
I did that and I am compiling at the moment so I am not sure if that is the
complete solution. But I'm making progress
Yes it worked.
thargoid.

yep that is exacly what I have to do too, to get it working although a couple of times I ended up with double the entries for each user :-(
