[konqueror] At my wits end over disappearing bookmarks

Hi; I've posted a bug before, and it got no response. I've spend about a dozen hours trying to rack my brain over this one; if anyone can help, please do!

The basic summary is that my konqueror bookmarks disappear when the browser is closed. Sometimes, you can't even add new ones. Additionally, there is a second bookmark menu on the top-right and other menu anomalies. If you put a bookmarks.xml file in the apps/konqueror directory, it gets deleted when you run konqueror (not just emptied, but physically removed).

I've tried starting with blowing away my .kde directory. I've started with old .kde directories present. I've tried just deleting konqueror-related config files. I've looked for config files outside of my home directory. I've tried upgrading to KDE 3.3 from 3.2.. Nothing has helped, and I'm at my wits end here. These problems sprung up in an upgrade from RH9 to FC3.

Ideas? Any ideas, please? I'll even give limited access to my system if it will help...

Quoted

I've posted a bug before

In a KDE bug list or in your distro bug list?
This seems a distro-related bug.

BTW I had a similar problem some time ago with firefox, and after having spent a lifetime looking at it I discovered it was simply a firefox ill behaviour when the pemissions of its settings directory where "strange" (I mean different from its default).

Its not a FC3 bug, as it works fine for me. (No upgrades)

Im not sure if you can with Kon, but have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. And myriad other things :P And the bug I reported was a KDE bug. It's not a distro issue; I've used FC2 packages (back before I upgraded to FC3), FC3 packages, development packages, and even a few non-redhat packages; nothing works. My partner is starting to get sick of the full-KDE reinstalls ;)

Could it possibly be something about how konqueror handles paths? Because my /home directory is a symlink, so it might get confused if it uses something like realpath. That's about the only "unusual" thing that I've got going on (well, that and I run a custom kernel to support my scsi card). And even that doesn't seem likely, as other kde programs manage just fine.

bookmarks gone

Similar problem in new FC2 install with mozilla. Shutdown browser and later discovered all my bookmarks gone. No problem with Konqueror.
