Keyboard layout

I recently got a Logitech Cordless Desktop EX100. I've tried the different Logitech layouts in control center, but none of the match the non-standard keys exactly. I suppose I need to create my own layout. I've looked into this before, when I was working with my laptop keyboard, but I was put off by the whole X keyboard thing which I found very complex.

Question: Would it be easier to create a new layout, perhaps contributing it to KDE? If so, what files are involved and how do I get started? Or should I just use some xmodmap script?

RE: Keyboard layout

Probably an xmodmap script would be easier although a contribution of the keyboard layout would be nice :)
