no sound with flash/firefox

i need help, and i figured since this might be an artsd problem, i figured i'd try posting here. basically, my problem is that i can play flash videos and such in firefox, but when logged in as a loser... i mean user ;) ... i have no sound. strangely enough, when logged in as root i do get sound. so, i came to the conclusion that it is a permissions issue... i also get sound in Gnome as a user, so that is why i suspect this is a KDE hiccup.

somwhere along the way i have a permission issue that is tripping me up in my user account. unfortunately, i don't know where it is at.

for my setup, i have firefox-bin (32bit), KDE, Xorg, amd64 install of Gentoo, ALSA drivers, and my sound is the nForce3 onboard sound (intel8x0). i'm using Macromedia's Flash plugin, though i had the same problem with the netscape-flash ebuild. i do have OSS compatibility enabled, as far as i know.

do, can someone clue me in on what permissions issues could be at blame? i don't know where to start, to be honest.

I doubt it is a permissions issue (but I could be wrong) otherwise you would also get *no* sound with Gnome as the same file (/dev/snd/device) is used system wide.

Aside from no sound with flash/firefox, do you get sound with say.. xmms or some other player like mplayer?
-- rm -fr /etc/whitehouse
-- Gentoo | udev | Xorg 6.8.2 | 2.6.14-r4 | KDE 3.5.0

i actually was given a solution to this after reporting this in bugzilla, which worked. basically artsd had to be released before flash could use it for sound, so i had to set it in the Control Center to release artsd after a shorter timeout (i have it set to 2 seconds)

it works. sorry if i didn't mention it sooner.

This post is rather old but....
There is a konqueror setting to 'pipe sounds though arts' which has to be turned on. It is buried in the 'plugins->netscape plugins' section of configure konqueror.

True, but this is a setting for plugins run in Konqueror, i.e. a flash animation running as a plugin in KHTML

When using a different browser it could be possible to relay its sound through artsdsp
