Does kspread read or write Microsoft Excel?

Does kspread read or write Microsoft Excel files at all? I tried File Save As and File Export, but there were no options there to use this format.

KSpread can read Excel documents, but can not save them (yet).

note:
Don't expect KSpread to read complex documents.
And certainly not documents with VB macro's in them.

The MS Office document structures are pretty complex though.
