Desktop - Order of icons

I'm using Kurumin (a Brazilian flavor of Knoppix) and Kde 3.2.3. Works fine.
I have some icons in my desktop and they are ordered in alphabetical order (either vertically or horizontally).
I couldn't, so far, to place them in the order I like instead of a fixed order dictated by the system.
Is there anybody with any idea about that??
Thanks a lot.

I think the best one can do is disable "auto arrange" and orded them manually.
