Windows key by itself

Hello,

I'm wondering how you get the Windows key, which is on some keyboards, to be a keyboard shortcut by itself. The thing is, I have it working now to open the K Menu, just like on Windows, which is what I want, but I don't know how it got working. When I go to Control Center -> Regional & Accessibility -> Keyboard Shortcuts, I have it set to Ctrl+Esc and Win+Esc. When I click "Custom", click the button to enter a key, and try to push simply the Windows key without another key, it won't let me assign just that key as a shortcut since it's a modifier key.

Just trying to understand what's going on.

Thanks, I thought I searched the forums before posting this but I missed that post. It still didn't answer my question though.... But I guess Gentoo must have automatically set the Windows keys to open the K Menu.
