Kicker + systray

I'm trying to run a transparent kicker but it seems the systray icons for xchat and gaim want to use their native gtk themes. I suppose I can just edit one of the current gtk themes but I'm not sure where/what to edit. I would be content if the biege backgrounds of the gaim/xchat icons were at least black as to at least blend in with my wallpaper. Is this possible or is the gtk hosing things?

This is a GTK bug. Sadly.
