assist new-to-linux with kmail

I am sure that I am missing something basic here, but can't seem to figure it out. For some reason I cannot send messages from kmail 3.1.5. When I attempt to send. Nothing happens and in lower dialogue box it just says failed to send some cued messages. My smtp settings are accurate.... I can download messages.... can anyone help me out? Any help is very much appreciated.

sendmail?

Have you tried setting sendmail as your preferred way of sending mails? I'm no expert, but you said that any help is appreciated, and sendmail works for me. ;-)

Try removing all mails from the outbox before starting a new attempt.

Sometimes there is an old mail from a previous attempt in there when you didn't have correct settings (mostly wrong address of the identity) and this blocks all later mails.
