What happened to KMenu alternative?

:?:
Two years ago there was a good discussion about KMenu in kde-look.

We really liked the idea and in developer.kde.org feature plans it exists.

Now I want to ask: Is there any work on it, or it was only a good dream?

this may have already been suggested/discussed elsewhere but having a themed display of the kmenu would be rather interesting. just as gdm2 allows for easily installed themes maybe the menu could be too.
