Kicker

Hi, I like KDE, but my second computer's too old to run it. I can't seem to get rid of the kicker though 8) so I'm trying to run it in the lighter desktop XFCE4. Is it possible to run kicker outside of KDE?

I tried adding kdeinit and kicker to my xinitrc, but I couldn't minimise windows or configure the panels :?:

Perhaps it needs KWin for minimizing.

No idea why panel configuration does not work.
Do you have kdebase installed?

I have the entire KDE installed; I figured that would get around any problems with required files to run kicker. I'm at work now, but I'll check on the KWin thing tonight.

But yeah, the config is the tricky part; if I can't get that working, the panel's defaults are near-useless to me.

Sure enough, kwin made the difference in minimising.

I also got some new errors when I tried to configure kicker via right-click:
[code:1]kcontrol: ERROR: Module kicker_config not found!
kcontrol: ERROR: Module kicker_config_appearance not found!
kcontrol: ERROR: Module kcmtaskbar not found![/code:1]
Google didn't help on that one... any ideas?

Hmm, sounds like KControl (the KDE control center) can't load the modules for kicker configuration.

Not sure what could cause this, perhaps the kdebase package isn't installed properly.

I'd say you just install it again :)

You can also check if the modules get loaded if you start kcontrol manually.
They should be under "Desktop"

Nope, still no go. When I load kcontrol, nothing loads in the list. I assume that's because I'm trying to load it outside of KDE. Any thoughts?

Also, do you think I should check out one of the (probably many) KDE mailing lists? Usually the experts seem to gravitate there; not that you're not helping. ;)

Hmm, it should work outside KDE as well.

Can you check which output this command creates:
#> locate kicker_config.desktop

Doesn't hurt :)
