KOrn and new mail detection

I'm using KDE 2.2.1 running on Solaris 8. I configured KOrn to monitor my mailbox on my POP3 server. KOrn gets the number of messages right, but the new mail indication is not correct. I use Netscape 6 to download messages to my local inbox and on the POP3 server this messages are cleared of their "New Mail" status when I do this. However, KOrn still indicates there is new mail. It is only when I download and remove messages from the server that KOrn clears the new mail indicator. KOrn seems to think any message held on the POP3 server are new. Is this normal behaviour? The GNOME mailbox monitor seems to key on the mail status on the POP3 server so when the new mail flag is cleared, it no longer indicates there is new mail.
