apps not launching from desktop or RUN

hi, i'm using kde3.1.4 from ftp.kde.org ( binaries for RH9 )
i have installed kdebase/libs/utils etc. so probably everything must work fine...but when i try launching an application (.desktop file ) from
either desktop , or from K Menu->Run, it displays an "Open With..." dialog and leave me wondering...

The problem happens if .desktop file has Url field. Files with Exec field do start properly.

Also it happens if a url is a directory, and not a file. Imagine i click Trash icon on my desktop and get "Open With.." prompt!! :(
Other cases, Url is "info:/..." or "man#..."

Has anyone seen that?

Check Control Center->KDE Components->file associations
inode/directory should list Konqueror and the command should be
kfmclient openURL %u inode/directory

much thanx! The problem with directory opening has gone!
There was no association for inode/directory at all :) so i created it.

Buut... still "Run" dialog does not recognize "protocols" info:/ and # (man)

(Note: i write e.g."info:/libc" in Konqueror address combo, it opens Info page allright ).

Strange.

Does it work from the ALT-F2 dialog?

NO.

Isnt "Run Command" dialog one that pops on Alt-F2?

Ah, you're right!
Never used that "run command" menu entry before :)

Unfortunately I don't have any idea left, what could be wrong here.
