Ranks...

I would like to request a new set of rank names. The current ones are boring.

Thank you for your time.

More ranks could be added to the existing ones but in my opinion the ones that exist are fine.

When you would like to see new ranks it would be best when you could give me a advice for new ranks/names. I don't want to start a rank fight cause in some forums people starting posting sh*t only to get ranks.

As administrator, do you prefer humourous or non-humourous ranks. If you want to maintain a more serious tone on these forums, non-humourous would probably be the best bet.

Rank fight really sucks :-(. I've seen the result in other forum not really worth mentioning.

I'm not sure that the same will happen here since the dominant theme - KDE - and the forum structure seam to keep people focused.

Anyway I'll try to imagine some ranks :-)

I agree. Having ranks for the sake of having ranks is pretty stupid unless your rank system is meant to be funny. I wasn't suggesting that with KDE because this forum is to the point. Meaning, it's for KDE and nothing else.

I like this forum because it does not stray from it's original intentin, to help KDE users solve KDE issues.

I'm still thinking of good, non-flamey ranks.

I don't believe there will be a rank fight ... just a point I saw at other forums. You could create more concret ranks... the actuals:

You're probably right. I suppose the entire rank system is overrated. Forget I brought it up. If anything, at least it stimulated some conversation.

Thanks for listening at least...

Maybe just one more rank as a "very" far goal.

1000 - Forum Addict

The name is questionable but the idea is that 1000 posts are a lot of posts so no one will say 1 word per post just to get there. On the other and users that reach 1000 [usefull] posts deserve a medal.

Also, 1000 posts will take some time to be reached by some users so there is no need to think in a new rank for an year or more. When the time comes a new rank could be created at the 5000 posts and so on.

Just a final idea.

EDIT: 1000 posts is not that far. Go go anda_skoa

I created Forum Addict but to 500 posts because at the moment 500 post users are really addicted - in the future I can change this to 1000 posts or someone presents a better/new rank idea here!

An idea:
I am thinking about adding ranking images to the ranks so anyone can see directly in the profile how many stars or something else the user has.
What do you think?

Something like little blue squares or something might be neat. but stars are kinda big.. either way, it's all good.

Rank image could be just a symbol like military ranks. 1 slash, 2 slashes, 3 slashes, a start, a shield, etc. I'm not suggesting military symbols, just the idea of one symbol per rank with the idea of evolution or incremental building.

I figger'd I'd just reawaken this post since my question is similar (and so I guess I can throw in an opinion while I'm at it).

As for rank images, that'd kinda clutter up the box on the left. As it is, there's already an avatar and stat bars. Adding another image may be a bit much.

As for my questions...

I'm curious, I've figger'd out on my own what one of the stat bars on the left represents, and that'd be the post count until next level (exp meaning experience I guess). The green bar (which is almost always completely empty) and the blue bar (which is almost always full) don't seem to make a whole lotta sense though.

Also, what exactly are those Registered KDE User # images representing? I guess I'm just nosey, but I'm curious as to their significance.

They are not part of the forum.

Go to the KDE user database to see more. Its not part of the .org domain and it's not under the KDE as kde-forum is, so it's not that oficial. Nevertheless it's fun.
