Permission problems with Kooka

Hi

I have just installed a scanner under KDE 3.1 and SuSE 9.0 and it's working fine. However, I can only see the scanner when I run Kooka as root.

If I run Kooka as user then the scanner isn't available.

Also, I can run Xsane as user and use the scanner fine.

It seems that I have a problem with permissions. Maybe a suid bit needs setting but I am not sure where.
The settings for the device usbscanner are :-

linux:/dev # ls -l usbscanner
crw------- 1 Stewart users 180, 48 2003-09-23 19:01 usbscanner
