KDE GL Screensaver flickering...

Hi!

I am using a SuSE 9.1 system with KDE 3.2.1.

My gfx card is an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 (identified as Radeon LW).

Ive noticed that all the screensavers that are using GL extensions, are flickering when started from KDE. With flickering I mean dark bands that scan the screen while the screensaver is showing (kind of like seeing the refresh rate of the monitor). This also happened in SuSE 9.0 (cant remember the exact KDE version but it should have been the one included).

This problem does not appear when starting a GL screensaver from xscreensaver.

3Ddiag says that everything is fine.

Acording to some other forums, this is caused by the KDE wrappers for xscreensaver. I was wondering if anyone has found a way to fix this?

Many thanx!

Any updates?

I also had the same symptoms. All GL seems to be fine (games, apps, xscreensaver when run manually) but when KDE runs xscreensaver with GL, very bad flicker occurs. Updating hasn't helped so far... Is there any updates on this?

SuSE 9.1 (2.6.5-7.108)
KDE 3.3.0-3
kdeartwork3-xscreensaver-3.3.0-3
xscreensaver-4.16-2.3
xorg 6.7.0-2.1

Same here!

I am having the same problem on any version of KDE I've used (>= 3.1). Currently I am using Ubuntu but I've experienced this on RedHat and Gentoo. Works fine in Gnome and XFCE4. This only happends with KDE.

My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 7200.

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Flickering

I'm running an IBM Thinkpad T30 with an Ati Radeon Mobility M7 (7500) 16MB AGP and in XFree86 4.x the graphics flickered. I'm now running Org 6.8.2 with DRI and have GLX enabled. GLX does not run well on these cards because there is no commercial support for anything under an 8500 or so. Ati has also failed to provide enough specifications for the Mesa GL project to fully implement consistant GLX support in Radeon chipsets. The flickering should go away if you have Org 6.8.2, but I can't promise it. I'm running Slackware 10.1 upgraded to current (09/05) with Linux Kernel 2.6.12.6 (From Source), DRI enabled in Kernel and in Xorg.conf. Under a stock version of Debian, Fedora, and Suse, the 7500 in this machine has flickered. Fedora uses Xorg, and I'm almost positive Suse does, but for some reason their deviant patches against the code have caused some issues. A vanilla 6.8.2 should do the trick, although on Fedora, Suse or Mandrake you have to deal with what you got or go through fire lighten hoops to get it built from source. I have also tried Gentoo 2005.1 with 2.6.12-gentoo-r6 and Andrew Morton's patchset with Org 6.8.2 and did not encounter the issue.
