change colours via command line?

Wondering how KDE actually changes colour themes through the kcontrol. Does it fire scripts in the background that make the changes?

Here's what I want to do....

I set up konqueror to dispay various HTML based side panels for certain profiles. I would like to create different coloured side bars, but keep them TIED to the colour selections in kcontrol.

I was thinking that if by selecting a colour scheme and clicking apply it runs a script in the background, that I could modify that script to also make it change my html sidebars.

I could easily make some menu icons to change the panels by linking them to panel changing scripts I'd write, but I want it to be more integrated if at all possible.

Any advice apreciated!

Thanks!!
