GTK 1.x themes not working in Suse 8.2

I've toyed around for plenty of time and finally got my GTK2 programs to react to the themes I set in gnome-theme-manager. However, running gnomecc, and creating that .gtkrc file haven't solved my problem with GTK 1.x themes. I can't get them to appear whatsoever. Is this a problem with Suse or am I missing alibrary?
