Renaming icon on kde desktop

This is a really weird bug, but whenever I go to rename an icon on the desktop (by right clicking and selecting rename, not by changing in properties menu) it will make no change the first time, if I try it again it will change the name to what i typed the first time, and if I try again, it changes to what i typed the second time, and so on. for some reason it is always one behind.

This is really annoying and is driving me crazy. I hate having to go into the properties menu to change the names of icons, but its really my only choice. Its becomming a big hassle.

Any help in this matter would be appreciated.
Im running Slackware 9.1 with kde 3.1.4, though ive had friends with the same problem on mandrake and redhat.
