Love Kjots but ....

I posed this question in the Office and PIMs forum and got no takers. Perhaps somebody watching this forum has an answer or suggestion.

Kjots fits exactly with the way I work. In fact I would like to use it more. My problems is ... I have tried to connect kjots "books" data that appears when I am in root with my
/home/Bill/.kde/share/apps/kjots/"books" that I have made as a user. I get "permission denied" or "no such file or directory" no matter what I try as root on the command line or how I change the group permissions. I know there has to be a configuration file somewhere, but I can't find it.

Does anyone know how to make kjots use and edit the same set of books no matter which mode, root or user, I am in ?
