Fonts (Antialias, TrueType, hinting, kerning, and subpixel)

Hi. There are so many font options, and I'd like to be able to get a sample to see which mode I work best in. Does anyone know how I can easily do a side by side comparison of all the different font option combinations:

AntiAlias ?
Subpixel ?
TrueType patented hinting, turning it on in freetype?
Kerning?
different fonts, etc?

In general, does anyone have any recommendations for the maximum readability? I'm using SuSE 8.2 / KDE 3.1, and while the fonts are very sharp, I could read them quicker on Windows 2000.
