How to get large previews of .pdf files

I frequently have large collections of scientific papers in pdf format in my home directory, and I would like them to be displayed as thumbnails (either in konqueror or on the desktop) large enough that I could read the title ('cos they always have nonsensical filenames which makes it hard to tell what each document is).

At the moment I have konqueror displaying the previews at the largest size allowed, but they are still too small for me to read. I have an idea that maybe what I need to do is increase the allowable file size. I remember getting the previews big enough to read when I set the icon size at 128; but I can't seem to do this with the icon theme I am using now (Aqua-fusion).

I would be grateful for any suggestions
