Double clicking in Konqueror 3.1

Hi,
I recently upgraded KDE on my redhat 8 box to KDE 3.1 provided by kde-redhat.sf.net. Everything is simply marvelous. however, one problem I'm having is with double clicking files to open them in Konq. When I double click the file, it doesn't open with it's associated viewer. For example, i have
[code:1]/home/fawad/foo.mp3[/code:1]

I can see in the konq file associations that it is associated with xmms and is configured to "open with external player". However, double clicking doesn't kick off xmms like it did with the stock konq for redhat. If I enable the Konq attached terminal, I see the command

[code:1]cd /home/fawad[/code:1]

being issued on it. If I right click the file and select xmms from the associated viewers list, it opens up just fine. What could be wrong here?

Is XMMS the default associated viewer (i.e. at the top of the list)?

If not it will not be launched, one of the other players will (or be attempted to).

Yes I am. I right click the file and in the 'Open With' submenu, Xmms is at the top. I even tried clicking 'Others' in the 'Open with' submenu and tried to force xmms to be associated, but it didn't help.

It doesn't matter what is on the top of the "open with" list. What matters is what is listed on the top of the file types dialog. Go to Kde Control Center -> KDE Componets -> File associations...

in the "find filename pattern" enter "mp3". audio should be listed under known types click audio and make sure "Show file in separate viewer" is selected. Then click on the "+" symbol next to audio and select the x-mp3 option. In the "Application Preference Order" make sure xmms is listed on the top.

It may be a good idea to check on the "Embedding" tab on that window and make sure that "Use settings for audio group" is selected also.
Strid...
