Kmail unable to start...

This is a sudden thing. I haven't changed anything on my system. Didn't add any software. Whenever I try to start kmail (clicking on the icon), it attempts to launch and then dies. I've tried it via commandline and get this error:

[code:1]*** KMail is already running with PID 972 on host mittens
ERROR: Communication problem with kmail, it probably crashed.
[/code:1]

When I check ps aux, there's nothing there. In fact, there is no visible PID 972 (oddly enough this PID is the same everytime even after reboots). I'm a little frustrated because I kinda like it.

My configuration is Slack 9.1 with a 2.4.24 kernel, KDE 3.2 and Kmail 1.6. This particular issue stopped working last Friday so it's been working fine under this kernel for about 3 months. Right now, this is the only portion of KDE that seems to be "burping".

If anyone has any ideas (I've tried fsck just in case but that found no errors).

Nevermind .. I just fixed it. Found a lock file in /home/mittens/.kde/share/apps/kmail. Deleted that since it had the date of the last time kmail worked and *poof*. Kmail works again. w00t! :D
