Kppp IP problem

Hi!
I have IBM Thinkpad T40 with Redhat 9 (kernel 2.4.20-27.9). Internal modem is working good with Smart Link Soft Modem for Linux (slmodem-2.9.2).
pppd version 2.4.1; Qt: 3.1.1; KDE: 3.1-12 Red Hat; KPPP: 2.1.2.
I'm connecting to my ISP well with redhat-config-network (1.2.15). But kppp with same parameters isn't works correctly. When modem connection established default gateway remains pointed to my LAN while redhat-config-network dit it right.
I think some other people have same problem: http://groups.google.com.ru/groups?dq=&hl=ru&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&threadm=kOpyb.36138%24IY5.20373%40newssvr31.news.prodigy.com&prev=/groups%3Fhl%3Dru%26lr%3D%26ie%3DUTF-8%26oe%3DUTF-8%26group%3Dlinux.redhat.ppp

Be happy to receive any advice.
