Kopete causing excessive memory usage

This happens sometimes (not all times) when I open a kopete chat window. The chat window will get to half rendered and then X will stop responding - mouse can be moved but clicks are not registering.

HDD light goes full red. Sometimes it can be waited out and everything will return to normal, Sometimes I am able to ctrl-alt-backspace to restart X and restore control.

If I do a ctrl-alt-f1 (switch to VT), login and run top, X is using approx 1.5GB of memory (I have 512MB RAM and about 2GB swap), it's also using approx 40% of my CPU (@Athlon XP 2000+).

OS is RedHat 9.0, I am using Kopete 7.4 compiled from source. Further details available on request.

I will be posting this to kopete-devel aswell.
