Dial-up connection settings

Konqueror download speed is rarely better than 300bytes/sec so doing a big Yast update can take hours!!! Using Win98 I normally expect (and get) at least 2.5kb/sec or better.

I changed mtu/mru settings in the ppp/options to 276, which I believe to be appropriate for dial-up but when I connect it gets overwritten and reset to 1500.

Any ideas that would improve download speed would be much appreciated
Thanks

What has Konqueror to do with Yast?

Dial-up connection settings

Oops - what I meant was downloading in either Konq or doing a Yast update I get lousy transfer rates.
Someone suggested setting up a file /etc/ppp/ip-up.local and setting the mtu inside that which I may yet try.
