[KSpread] How to input exponential numbers?

Hi,
it is a trivial thing:
I want to input something like "2^3" - but how? If I really put in "=2^3" it gives me something like "true" or "false", but not "8" as result.
"=2**2" does not work, too. I didn'*t find anything inside the manual, so does anyone have a hind for me where to look this and these things up?

Use: =POWER(2;3)
