KMenu will not let me get it customized

Hello

I have an issue with my Fedora Core 2, hope someone will be able to help me out, here it goes:

My KMenu is really stubborn and it will not let me configure itself. I go to Menu Editor, do all my customizing, then hit "Save". A message "Saving system configuration" appears and everything seems to be working, but the KMenu stays unchanged!. I tried to log out the seesion and log in to a new one but it did not solve it. No matter what I do, the KMenu stays at its default layout and none of my changes are applied. It does not matter whether I am logged in as root or as an user, KMenu won't let me get it customized. A clean reinstall of Fedora Core 2 would not help either.
It is the same even in GNOME, so I am completelly lost on this one.

Thanks for any replies.
