Playing sounds make scratching noise

I have just upgraded to from Mandrake 9.1 to Mandrake 9.2, and when i play music through xmms i get giant scratching noises when playing music.

I want to know about what driver and output device i should use for playing music. OSS output gives me distortion every 10 seconds or so, and artsd scratches.

I would also like to use full-duplex audio in linux, but cant seem to do that. how do i accomplish true full-duplex sound output?! Its driving me crazy!

Any help or guidance would be much appreciated!

Thanks!
