XMMS and mpeg

When I put a CD in my CD-drive it plays the music fine, so everything seems installed properly. But when I try XMMS to play my mp3-files I don't hear a thing. No otput at all. The same thing when I try playing a movie with mpegs I get picture, but no sound. How can Iget XMMS to work properly? Can it be done in a couple of simple steps, or is something really wrong?

Thanks for your help.

If Arts is running, you need arstdsp for the non-KDE application to be able to see the DSP.

arstdsp yourapplication

If you are running Red Hat ->

RH are idiots, and do not provide the mp3 decoders with their distribution because of copyright issues. Get them from www.xmms.org
