How do I open aRts-Control GUI in KDE ?

In Yast I see that I have four arts packages installed. (on suse8.2)

I'm trying to learn how to use KRec, and at one point in the KRec handbook it says
"...you need to open aRts-Control and its Audio-Manager.."

Does anyone know how I can open the arts-control GUI? I dont see it on the KDE menu. (and if I type arts in the run command box all I get is a "Sound System" config box, that's not what i need.)

Thanks a lot,
Kevin

The executable name is artscontrol.
Usually it is also visible in KMenu->Multimedia or one of its submenus.

Hi,

did you try "artscontrol" -> View -> Audio-Manager?
On my SuSE 9.0 it is in K-Menue -> Multimedia -> Control -> arts control.

Re aRtscontrol

Thanks for your response,
I found the artscontrol executable and am able to run that!

But still can't get to it from the KDE menu... This is where I found it:
etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/Multimedia/More/artscontrol.desktop
The folder More does not show on the menu. What can I do to have it show on the KDE menu?

However there is this file:
etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk/Multimedia/artscontrol.desktop
with contents:
"[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Hidden=true"

Looks like it may be preventing it from showing on the menu.
What is the purpose of this file? Can I simply change 'true' to 'false' ? Will that have any other undesired effect?

Thanks again for any ideas on this.

All that will happen if you chage that value to true is that you will see an icon on your desktop to launch artscontrol. You might try running that - it is possible that some config files need to be created for KRec to "see" the install.
