noatune not working

I am using suse 8.2. noatun (default sound system player right?) does not work. I tried installing a newer rpm 3.1.3-47 but no luck. xmms works fine, but even if I load noatun manually from the menu it tries to load but gives up after a while. I didn't realize how lonely KDE could be without sounds :( It's like a ghost town.
anyone else have this problem in Suse 8.2 (pro edition)?
