Kaboodle not working after upgrade

Hello, this is my first post.
I'm using gentoo-linux and, with kde 3.1.2 (and kdemultimedia 3.1.2 too, of course) I used to play every kind of media with kaboodle (mpg, avi, mp3 to name a few).
After upgrading to kde 3.1.3 (all kde packages upgraded, including kdemultimedia) everything is fine, except that kaboodle plays only mp3 files and nothing else.
I try to explain better what happens: the association for video files are the same as before, ie if I click on a mpg video kaboodle is automatically started...but it stays blank and doesn't play (play button isn't even clickable). If I try to manually open a file, the filter for the file type in the dialog box that pops up has the following entries:
"all supported types"
"Audio CD"
"OGG"
"Audio ULAW (sun)"
"unknown"
"Audio AIFF/Amiga"
"unknown"
"unknown"
"unknown"
"audio MPEG layer 3"

I suppose that where the name is "unknown" there should be some other media type (eg, mpeg etc.), but I don't know where to look to see if something wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
