Kmid and Kmidi
Is development for these programs dying? I have never been able to get Kmid to work, I get an error saying that the /dev/sequencer is busy. It doesn't even exist! Rosegarden appears to be something similar to Cakewalk for Windows. But it doesn't work either. crashes due to /dev/sequencer problem. I have found nothing anywhere about how to go about creating/configuring /dev/sequencer.
Kmidi works -- but just barely. I have downloaded new patchsets, but it drops out, skips and in general sounds lousy. The Kmidi section of the home page of the developer has not been updated in almost four years
Googling these problems returns nothing useful. The handbooks under KDE are incomprehensible, they expect too much knowledge already from the reader, or else don't seem to match the Kmidi panels I see when the programs arre open.
I've had thse problems too. Also, playing MIDs with KMidi never sounded as good as MIDIs played in Winamp on Windows for me. I always seem to hear the individual notes so like it sounded like the player was poking at the keys one at a time like a beginner.

Re: Kmid and Kmidi
It seams they are not mantained at the moment.
In the about dialog of Kmid, the home page of the project is

There has been a recent thread about the two on kde-core-devel:
