kde file manager super user mode

When I launch my file manager (logged in as a standard user) I get the admin password dialogue box which I complete then click the OK box, the file manage rscreen comes up for about 3 seconds the closes again.

The system log shouws:

Aug 1 22:15:00 rick2 su(pam_unix)[14274]: session opened for user root by (uid=500)
Aug 1 22:15:00 rick2 su(pam_unix)[14274]: session closed for user root
Aug 1 22:15:00 rick2 su(pam_unix)[14279]: session opened for user root by (uid=500)
Aug 1 22:15:05 rick2 su(pam_unix)[14279]: session closed for user root

But I am not sure what this means or if it is even what I need to look at.
Any Ideas?
