Russian in Linux

When i am chating in ICQ or in ksirc,and when i chat with a russian man and he writes me with russian letters,i don't undestand i see only some symboles.
What should i do do understand russian letters and how?

What do you mean?
Is the displayed font incorrect, or can't you read Russian at all?
Some messenger applications (probably kopete) have a translation plugin so you can translate Russian to English and vice versa

The cyrillic fonts are installed.
And I put Russian languale and i can't read russian letters when a name of a document is written in russian or when smb. writes me in russian.
What can i do?

Did you ever figure out how to get it to communicate with russian characters and/or translate on the fly? I haven't been able to....
