kde 3.2 slowing down?

kde 3.2 slowing down?

I'm running kde 3.2.1 under gentoo. Whenever my internet connection drops (cable modem) me entire desktop slows to a crawl. If I click on a button it takes a couple of minutes for the app to open (whereas with internet active it took seconds). This happened to me under RedHat where I've installed 3.2 from rpm's as well as under gentoo, compiled from source.
Am I missing anything obvious?

This is a hostname problem as far as I can remember. Do a search here on the forum. It has something to do with setting your hostname or something.

If not: you are suffering from the same problem as me then. I haven't been able to solve it.
