X cpu spike when resizing windows (KDE 3.2.x)

A couple of users in the #kde irc channel have complained that KDE 3.2.x has the following problem. Start Konsole. Enter "top" command. Resize the Konsole window. Watch X cpu spike to 10% or even as high as 80%. They claim this didn't happen under KDE 3.1.x. I can confirm that both KDE 3.2 and 3.2.1 behave this way on my machine, but I don't know about 3.1.x.

For me, this does not seem like a serious problem, but if true, it ought to be addressed. Some users complain that it causes pauses in music streams and other annoying momentary hangs.

Anybody else seeing this problem? Anyone have a solution? Someone suggested enabling "backing store", but I looked at my NVIDIA driver docs and have no idea what they're talking about.
