installing packages and downloads

Hello everyone .I am new to Red Hat linux .How do I install and run a download or package (rpm?) .what window or file do I open to do it, where is it . I have installed the recent Red Hat 9 distro . The fourth disk has the latest media player and browser etc , How do I get them up and running on the system . thanks Rob whiteside

i believe there is a gui application in one of the menus of Red Hat which is labelled "Packages". use that to install new apps from the CDs. alternatively, double click on the rpm to install it, or use the command "rpm" from the command line.

And to install a package via command line all you have to do is type in:

#rpm -Uvh package_name.rpm :wink:

If there are no dependancies you should be OK :D
