slow applications under KDE 3.1

Hello,

I recently installed KDE 3.1 on a Debian Woody.

Everything is fine except that some applications (such as the Konqueror filebrowser or KPM or Panel Configuration) take 30 sec. to 1 minute to launch. Also, when I click on "Browse" to choose an image for the desktop wallpaper, the filebrowser appears only after a minute or two.

My computer is a 1.3 Ghz Athlon with 256 Mb RAM.
Most applications (Konsole, KMail, KEdit) run perfectly well but some are just *too* slow.

Is that normal ? If not, does anyone know how to fix it ?
