problems with logging in

A few days ago i went to log in and instead of anything starting it just spit me back to the login screen. I can however login in failsafe mode. I was wondering if this had anything to do with using the graphical login. I have been trying to turn that off but i cant seem to figure out how. I think that I should change my run level to 3 and I think that this should be done through KSySV, but I am not sure how. Also Mozilla works through failsafe mode, but it doesnt register the keyboard, the console does recognize the kyeboard though. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks alot.

To start linux with runlevel 3, you should edit /etc/inittab.
Look for this line:
id:5:initdefault:
change it into this:
id:3:initdefault:

Not sure if this will solve your problem, if you jump back to the login screen, this means that your X Server has crashed and is restarted.
