After crash due to insufficient memory, kde is useless

Hi,

I was lading an index file into the kde browser that loads too many MB of images for my system. My bad. Now kde doesn't work. The desktop icons are not on the desktop but in the ~/Desktop directory. The KDE control center wont start. Nothing will start from the KDE menus. I am reduced to using the command line to start things.

Is there a way to fix this short of reinstalling? My SuSE CDROM set is at work so it'll be Monday before I can get them.

You kde configuration files are probably corrupted.
You can check this out by creating a new user and start kde under this username.
If everything if fine, rename/delete the directory ~/.kde(3) and anything kde-related in /tmp and start kde using your own account.
