can't see any text at all ever

I've just installed KDE on a G4. It al looks dandy except that there is absolutely no text to be seen anywhere within the KDE environment. Any clues? I notice in Xterm I'm getting 'fcntl: Bad file descriptor' a lot.. TIA

KDE 3.1.? on Xfree86 4.2.? and X11, Mac OS 10.2.4

Either you have not installed any fonts or the search paths in XF86config to the font libs are wrong or missing.

That's my best guess.
Ofcorse I use windows, how else would I get fresh air into the room?
