KDE seems to have some obscure but irritating bugs??

Hi everyone,

Now that I have settle on using KDE and have started to use it in earnest I occassionally have to "reboot" KDE to get it to work right and was wondering if anyone experiencing the same thing could expand on what I am experiencing.

Every once in a while KDE menus both inside windows and in the "Start" menu that comes up when I click on the red hat appear alright but as soon as I let go of the left mouse button they disappear again.

The only way I can select something when menus are acting like that is to move the mouse to the menu option I want and let go of the mouse. I cannot scroll up and down the menu without holding down the left mouse button.

Now lest anyone think that this is something I have set purposely, I am familiar with where these types of window behaviours are controlled under the Control Center and no, I have not set things to act like descxribed.

In fact when I logout and come back everything is fine again. That is the menus appear when I click for them to appear and they stay on the screen until I have moved over to the option I want and clicked on it with the left mouse button.

When this bizarre behaviour occurs I cannot click on radio buttons in any form anywhere either. I am assuming this is because the left mouse button ends up being forced to perform some other action than a simple click.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is this a bug? Is there anything that can be done about it?

It's becoming rather frustrating to logout and log back in again every time this happens just to continue using KDE. Especially in view of my having come to Linux for the greater stability it offered (and does have) only to have to "reboot" KDE a few times a day to get it to keep working right :).

Any suggestions or insight on this?

Thanks very much.

Carlos

PS. I am running Redhat 8.0 and using a Logitech MouseMan Wheel mouse connected to a USB port that is being seen by RedHat as a 3-button wheel mouse.

Hi,
I'm using KDE 3.1 under gentoo. So it's out of the Box without any modifications of the distributor.
It's well known that RH made some more or less usefull moifications to the kdelibs. The only thing I can tell you is, that I never had these bugs.

RH 8.0 + KDE = bad

RedHat made some changes to KDE that added some bugs. If you want to use KDE, do not use RedHat.

I use SuSE, it's great.

I'm experiencing similar bug in gentoo but it only happens about once a week so I haven't done any bug reports. Perhaps you could make a bug report to bugs.gentoo.org.
