Upgrading KDE 4.2.2 to 4.4 on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty

I've attempted to upgrade my KDE to 4.4 via instructions found on the web (I didn't bookmark the site I found so I can't refer to them here, unfortunately). My system recently did a 'partial upgrade', but I'm a relative newcomer to Linux so I'm not certain what that changed. Following the directions resulted in no change to my KDE - Konq still says I have 4.2.2.

I don't necessarily want to have to upgrade the entire system, as I've seen firsthand some of the weirdnesses Lucid is throwing out. Can anyone shed some light on this?
