Kubuntu karmic on netbook - Session locks randomly and also unlocks randomly

The screen of my karmic on netbook gets locked on its own randomely, no patterns observed in this auto-lock. The usual pops-up box shows "The session was locked by..." and asks for password to unlock.

Entering password does unlock but funnily if you leave the pop-up alone, the screen also unlocks on its own randomly. Again no mouse movement or key press triggers it.

Absolutely erratic behaviour and extremely painful with frequent disruptions. Need urgent help.
