Can only login in default since upgrading to Kde 4.1

Hi all .

I was happily sauntering along through life with my kubuntu hardy and my kde 3.5 desktop until i had upgrades to do today .

I wish there had been a big red flashing sign saying DO NOT PRESS . DO NOT UPGRADE .

I can now only login in the default option .
If i try on kde , type in my password , hit enter then the screen goes black then disappears then comes back to the log on bit again .

Im pretty rubbish at all things Linux so dont know what to do now . Im a 42 yr old noob .

Is there some good soul out there who can advise me ( and in really simple terms too ) on how i can get this sorted .

Thanking all in advance

Mink
